Seasonal flu occurs every year, usually in the winter. It’s a highly infectious disease caused by a number of flu viruses. Its more dangerous than just a cold. A flu jab (vaccination) is a quick way to protect yourself against flu.
Some people are more susceptible to the effects of seasonal flu. For them it can increase the risk of developing more serious illnesses such as bronchitis and pneumonia, or can make existing conditions worse. In the worst cases, seasonal flu can result in a stay in hospital, or even death.

Also, some people of any age should consider having the free seasonal flu vaccination. You should get a free flu jab from your GP if you have:
The flu jab is perfectly safe. It doesn’t contain any live virus so it cannot give you the flu. It is also safe for you and your baby if you are pregnant.
I had the seasonal flu vaccination last year. Do I need another flu jab this year?
You should have a flu jab every year if you are in the above groups. So even if you had a jab last year, you should get another this year.
Getting a flu jab protects you and those around you all winter. It is quick, safe and free – if you are living with a long-term condition, over-65 or pregnant.
