Patient Participation Directed Enhanced Service (PPDES)
Knowing how satisfied patients are when they visit your surgery is vital in ensuring that what you do is effective for you and your patients.
The Patient Participation Directed Enhanced Service (PPDES) is for 2 years, effective from 1 April 2011 to 31 March 2013. The key objective is to ensure patients are involved in decisions about the range and quality of services provided by their practice.
Full guidance and audit requirements for 2011/12-2012/13 can be found at:
Practices will need to understand the view of their patients by doing an annual local practice survey. Results of the year one and year two survey must be published on-line by 31 March 2012 and 31 March 2013 respectively.
While this is a two-year DES, many key stages are annual. It assumes a repeat approach being taken by a participating practice, with the development of information in the practice report. The year two report should be published on a practice’s own website.
The expectation is that the year two report should build on year one. Practices should demonstrate how issues raised in year one have been addressed.
The My Health London website team is planning a survey tool that GP practices can use, free of charge, to conduct their patient survey, collate the results, and look at the findings. This will be launched on 9 January 2012 along with online patient participation group discussion boards. These will not appear in the public domain and can be practice led and monitored. On 30 January a new practice enewsletter module will be launched with supporting templates.
If practice managers or GPs want to have further training on design and production of patient surveys - either via Survey Monkey software or for the new MyhealthLondon website - please email Jasline.jacob@onel.nhs.uk. We are firming up dates at the end of March for more live training sessions in all four boroughs. We have also published a slide pack on how to use Survey Monkey in the IT section of the GP Centre on the NHS outer north east London website.
NHS outer north east London is working with two practices to pilot the 6 steps of the PPDES. This will enable learning to be shared with all practices across outer north east London at practice workshops being planned for end of January/early February 2012.
All practices undertaking the PPDES can contact Karen Roach Patient Satisfaction Lead for further help and support at karen.roach@onel.nhs.uk. An information pack from workshops held in February2012 is available on request.
For any help and support for the My Health London website please contact Laura Hayes Senior Communications Manager on laura.hayes@onel.nhs.uk.
